Breaking the Cycles of Village Tradition: a cultural exploration of the People's Communes in Northern Zhejiang

Professor Zhang Leitian, Department of Sociology, Fudan University, PRC. His book Say Goodbye to Utopia (1998) is based on fieldwork in his native village. He will introduce the lives of rural people during the time of the communes, revealing the multilayered reasons for the communes, their ultimate demise and the essential values of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
